VOICES ON THE INSIDE

Oklahoma
Hazel Enigma
by Kristina C.

Look into my eyes. What do you see?
Do you see who I really am or who you portray me to be?
Can you see past my failure and mistakes?
At the woman inside the world tried to break.
Can you see my scars or the way I was abused?
At the heart inside that was broken and used.
Do you see a mother who has lost her children?
At the way she is held down from the weight of that shame.
Can you see the way that time has helped mold me?
At the ways I’ve refined myself, my achievements, the things I’ve changed.
Look into my eyes. What do you see?
Do you see who I really am, are you starting to see me?
Can you see the stories I hold, the things of my past, my history?
Can you see the chains I’ve broken, how I’ve been freed?
Behind these eyes lay my soul, an unbroken spirit, a heart of gold.
A woman on an undiscovered journey into a better future.
Where happiness, love, a family reunited are waiting to unfold.
Riding on all her memories good and bad,
Into a life she has always wanted, yet never had.
Look into my eyes. What do you see?
Is your portrayal of me the same as it used to be?
