Walk a Mile in My Shoes
by Vicki C.

Just put one foot in front of the other. Simple you say? Now, do it wearing my shoes, now go where I’ve been and see if you will come out standing, smiling, successful or slumped over.

It has been a long and winding journey, one filled with thrills, challenges, rewards, slip-ups, mistakes, and experiences that have left me at times; awestruck, perplexed, sorrowful, exhausted, delighted, and or relieved.

At times I had to walk alone. Sometimes I got to walk with others. At times I had to catch up. Once or twice I was called on to lead.

Even when shoes are too tight or too big, in order to get to where I was going, I just kept on walking…

Walking from sunrise to sunset, walking from season to season, from friendship to friendship, from chaos to calm. Sometimes the thought “Quit, give up, throw in the towel!” would dare to cross my mind. Then I’d imagine what it will look like to finish, to accomplish, to do what they said, I could never do.

That’s when I remind myself that I am ‘fearfully and wonderfully made.’ That I can do ALL things through Christ, Who strengthens me. This too shall soon pass, but I was built to last!

So don’t let my grey hair fool you, I still have the ability to school you. The lessons I’ve learned along the way, I’ll gladly share both night and day. The struggle is real and that’s a fact! I pray my voice is heard with grace and tact.

So, I’ll put my shoes on and lace them tight, ’cause I still have a lot to do… I offer YOU this simple challenge, to walk a mile in my shoes!
